StraightGate50 Pneumatic pSG50 External Wastegate by Turbosmart - TS-0565-1762
Turbosmart StraightGate50 Pneumatic (pSG50) 50mm External Wastegate
The Turbosmart StraightGate50 Pneumatic is not a traditional wastegate.
It’s a complete rethink of how boost control should work.
Unlike conventional poppet-style external wastegates, the StraightGate50 uses a zero-offset butterfly valve design — delivering enormous flow capacity, near-linear control characteristics and unprecedented tuning range.
This is the world’s highest-flowing 50mm external wastegate.
What Makes the StraightGate50 Different?
Most external wastegates use a poppet valve.
That means exhaust gas must turn 90 degrees to exit the valve seat.
The StraightGate50 doesn’t.
It uses a centrally pivoting, zero-offset butterfly valve that allows exhaust gas to flow straight through the body with minimal disruption.
The result:
• 383.9 CFM / 10.87 m³ per minute flow
• Reduced turbulence
• Improved response
• Greater bypass authority
• More stable boost control
Flow matters — but control matters more.
Self-Balancing Butterfly Design
The butterfly valve is subjected to exhaust drive pressure equally across both halves.
This means the valve self-balances against drive pressure.
Unlike traditional gates that must fight increasing exhaust pressure at high boost, the StraightGate50 requires less actuator force to remain stable.
The result?
• Reduced actuator strain
• More consistent boost control
• Wider usable tuning window
• Improved performance at extreme drive pressures
This is especially important in high boost, high backpressure applications.
Pneumatic (Boost-Based) Control – Simplified Power
The Boost-Based Pneumatic StraightGate50 (pSG50) takes the award-winning electronic eSG50 platform and simplifies it with a traditional boost-based actuator.
Pre-fitted with 6 psi springs and featuring both single and twin port control, the pSG50 provides:
• Simple mechanical boost control
• Wide tuning capability
• Compatibility with conventional boost controllers
• Over 5x base spring pressure tuning range
The self-balancing design allows a huge tuning window compared to conventional wastegates.
Why Choose the StraightGate50?
The StraightGate50 is ideal for:
• High horsepower drag builds
• Time attack and circuit racing
• High drive pressure turbo setups
• Applications where poppet gates struggle
• Builders chasing ultimate boost control
This is not just a replacement for a 50mm poppet wastegate — it’s a different class of product.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the StraightGate50 and a traditional wastegate?
Traditional wastegates use a poppet valve that forces exhaust gas to turn 90 degrees.
The StraightGate50 uses a straight-through butterfly valve, dramatically increasing flow and improving boost stability.
Is the StraightGate50 better than a ProGate50?
They are different architectures.
The ProGate50 is a high-performance poppet-style gate.
The StraightGate50 is a butterfly-style gate offering significantly higher flow and wider tuning window — particularly beneficial in high drive pressure environments.
Can I use a standard boost controller?
Yes.
The pSG50 is boost-based pneumatic and supports both single and twin port control, making it compatible with conventional boost control systems.
How much boost can it handle?
Spring options range from 6 psi to 42 psi base pressure, and due to the self-balancing design, the effective tuning window exceeds 5 times base spring pressure.
Actual boost capability depends on system design.
Why Buy From Walton Motorsport?
We don’t just sell wastegates.
As a turbo manifold manufacturer, we understand how:
• Drive pressure
• Turbine housing selection
• Collector design
• Backpressure ratios
…impact wastegate performance.
The StraightGate50 is not necessary for every build — but when it’s required, it solves problems traditional wastegates cannot.
