Description
ECU Master EMU Black Standalone Engine Control Unit
EMU Black is a very equipped ECU at a very competitive price point. Originating from Poland, ECU Master is fast becoming the club-level ECU of choice across the UK. With very user-friendly software and connectors that do not require expensive tooling, In short, it is perfect as a DIY setup.
EMU Black Features
ENCLOSURE
ECU Master makes their EMU Black enclosure from CNC Machined Aluminium. Therefore, the enclosure design guarantees high immunity to mechanical damage, water resistance (IP65), and very good heat conduction from electronic components.
The additional hole through the enclosure provides a mounting point.
At the front of the enclosure, ECU Master has incorporated a micro USB sealed connector for PC communication. Similarly, they have also provided a MAP sensor connection tube.
PCB
ECU Master has utilized 4 layers of PCB board and most of the components are SMD type (except connectors). In addition, they are coated with a special surface protecting the board and components from moisture. Due to design, the device is extremely immune to vibration.
ECU Master assembled according to IPC-S-815A standards on a fully automated assembly line with an optical inspection to ensure the highest possible quality.
Carefully electronic components selection allows proper device operation in a very wide temperature range (-40C to 105C) (AECQ-100 GRADE2)
ANALOGUE INPUTS
The EMU BLACK has two additional analogs inputs in comparison to regular EMU. In addition to this, each analog input has software selectable pullup/pulldown (4700Ohm). For CLT and IAT inputs the pullup resistor is 2200Ohm and could be disabled via software. That allows easy sharing of temperature signals with OEM ECU when connected in parallel.
SWITCH INPUTS
The EMU BLACK has 3 digital switch inputs, used for activating strategies by switching input to the sensor ground. Moreover, switch inputs can also be transmitted for a CAN Bus device.
TRIGGER INPUTS
The 3 trigger inputs (Primary trigger, CAM#1, CAM#2, and VSS) can be either pullup or pulldown (4700Ohm, 1000Ohm, 820Ohm) as well as analog filter level (none, low, medium hall).
Primary trigger input could be HALL or VR (software selectable). VR sensors can have the adaptive level as low or high.
For CAM#1 and CAM#2 inputs the reference voltage could be defined in separate 2D tables in the function of RPM which greatly improves noise immunity for VR sensors (the higher RPM the higher trigger voltage threshold)
For VSS sensor VR or HALL sensor type can be selected.
FLEX-FUEL INPUT
ECU Master EMU BLACK has a dedicated input for the Flex Fuel sensor ( regular EMU uses CAM#2 or VSS input for this purpose).
IGNITION OUTPUTS
EMU BLACK supports active and passive coils (software selectable). In addition, it is possible to drive 2 active coils from one ignition output.
H-BRIDGE
The stepper outputs of regular EMU were replaced by two states of the art bulletproof H-BRIDGEs with over 6A continuous current (1A for regular EMU). This allows control of stepper motors. In addition, electronic throttle, VANOS as well as any solenoid with current draw lower than 6A (low and high side drive possible)
E-Throttle DBW
Due to the high current capability of the built-in H-bridge, EMU BLACK is able to control the directly electronic throttle (no external module required). PWM frequency from 1000Hz to 8000Hz. For safety reasons, the DBW strategy works on 2 separate processors and any malfunctioning in one of them causes throttle limp mode.
AUX OUTPUTS
All AUX outputs of EMU BLACK have a built-in fly-back circuit. Therefore, allowing precise control of solenoids.
WBO
The wideband oxygen sensor circuit will support LSU 4.2 and in addition LSU 4.9 Bosch sensors.
CAN-BUS
EMU BLACK has built-in CAN-BUS support. A software-selectable 120Ohm terminator. In addition, a separate serial communication is available
5v Outputs
EMU Classic uses the same internal voltage regulator for internal circuits and external sensors (+5V output). In contrast, EMU BLACK introduces an additional +5V regulator for 5V output. 2x +5V output terminals for easier harness design.
FIXED 12v
+12V is provided by a fixed 12V input used for powering the device and flyback circuit. Whereas, a switched +12V is used to turn on and off the device.
ANALOGUE GROUNDS
ECU Master provides 3 separate sensor ground terminals to allow easier harness design. In addition this helps balance load across the terminals.
EMU Black CONNECTORS
EMU BLACK uses 2 connectors (black and grey). Whereas, the grey connector (24 ways) shares a pin layout with the Classic. Moreover, the 39-way connector is unique to the Black. However, it is very easy to repin a classic. For wiring, information click here
ECU Master EMU Black SOFTWARE
EMU BLACK software features improvements and functionality over the EMU Classic Software. In addition, the configuration tree has now an additional hierarchy level which makes navigation easier. The latest release is available here
